this Soviet Specialty was created in 1912
to commemorate 100 years since Russia's
victory over Napoleon's French Army in 1812!
The crumbs on top represent the snow
during the War, which helped Russia win,
and the many layers of thin pastry
represent the high numbers of soldiers
involved in the conflict. This cake
actually copies a type of French pastry
but the Russians upped it one better,
and now millions love to indulge
